David Morrison founded the Wick Festival of Poetry, Folk and Jazz and is the author or editor of numerous works, including books of poetry and essays, and including those on the works of Neil M. Gunn and Fionn MacColla.
His writing brought him into contact with other writers associated with the budding Scottish Renaissance, such as Hugh MacDiarmid, James Bridie, Naomi Mitchison, Eric Linklater, Edwin Muir, Lewis Grassic Gibbon, and George Blake.

He is also commemorated in the Canadian Police and Peace Officer's Memorial on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.

He died while on a solo back country horse patrol as a Canadian national park warden near Douglas Lake in Banff National Park, and was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Banff, Alberta.
The new Amtrak president, David L. Gunn then re-launched the Springfield Shuttle service with increased number of round trips and much-lower "commuter" level fares, turning the shuttle into a service in its own right, instead of just a connection for through travelers along the Northeast Corridor.
In 1999 he left GO Transit to join the Toronto Transit Commission as General Manager, replacing David Gunn who announced his retirement on October 7, 1998.
