He even noted that, as a reference to Secret Wars, he wanted to include a New Mutants character in the collage cover art of Worlds Apart.

The Demon Bear is a fictional villain featured in the comic book series The New Mutants and X-Force, both published by Marvel Comics.
When Cable joined the New Mutants and turned them into X-Force, S.H.I.E.L.D. asked Bridge to investigate the team.
In subsequent years, the character was featured as a member of the original New Mutants team and the original X-Force team, and continued to appear in various X-Men franchise publications thereafter.
Created by writer Fabian Nicieza and artist Rob Liefeld, the character first appeared in New Mutants vol.1 #99 (March 1991), after which he became a member of the superhero team X-Force.
During one of these games, the Upstarts targeted the surviving members of the New Mutants and the Hellions, but were defeated by the combined forces of X-Force and the New Warriors.
When the Gamesmaster declared that the new target for the Upstart competition would be former members of the New Mutants and Hellions, Fitzroy attacked X-Force, demanding they turn over Rictor and Warpath.
While being transported, X-Force (the team created by the former members of the New Mutants), rescued them.
