Jay Kalk was born in New Ulm, Minnesota and raised on a farm with his mother, father and two younger brothers.

State Highway 68 serves as an east–west route in southwest and south-central Minnesota between Canby, Minneota, Marshall, Morgan, Sleepy Eye, New Ulm, and Mankato.
The section of present day State Highway 68 between U.S. Highway 169 (at Mankato) and State Highway 15 (immediately south of New Ulm) was originally designated Highway 83 as well between 1934 and 1963.
The 106th United States Congress (2000) designated the Hermann Monument in New Ulm to be an official symbol of all citizens of German heritage.
On July 14, 2008, LeVoir was appointed the fourth bishop of New Ulm by Pope Benedict XVI.
The WELS maintains four schools of ministerial education: two college preparatory schools Michigan Lutheran Seminary and Luther Preparatory School; a pre-seminary and teacher training college, Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota; and a seminary for training pastors, Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, located in Mequon, Wisconsin.
