The boat was built at Kelly and Hall's boatyard at Newton Ferrers by John and Douglas Elliott.
It was restored by George Fellowes Prynne in 1885–6 and only the west tower and the north and south arcades remain of the medieval structure.
He resided mostly at Newton Ferrers, and died suddenly there alone, at noon on 27 June 1578, aged 77.
