He regularly appeared as wild card in the Malta Grand Prix, where throughout the events history he managed to beat the likes of Nigel Bond and John Higgins.
He took part in 10 of them with his best finish coming in the European Tour Event 1 in Germany where he beat Ben Harrison, Nigel Bond, Phil Barnes and top 16 player Ricky Walden, before losing to Joe Swail 3–4 in the quarter-finals.
Having come through the amateur rounds, he then defeated Anthony McGill and Nigel Bond to reach the last 32, where he lost to Joel Walker.

Lu's first appearance in a ranking tournament was in the wildcard round of the 2012 World Open, where he defeated 1996 British Open winner Nigel Bond 5–4 in Haikou.
His best run of results for the ranking event came in Shanghai Masters Qualifying, where he defeated Chen Zhe and Yu Delu, but then lost 1–5 to Nigel Bond.
