2 unusual facts about No. 167 Squadron RAF


No. 118 Squadron RAF

A particularly violent engagement took place on 3 May 1943, when the Spitfires of 118, 167 and 504 Squadrons escorted the Lockheed Venturas of No. 487 Squadron RNZAF on a raid against a power station in Amsterdam.

No. 147 Squadron RAF

It reformed on 1 February 1953 as an overseas ferry unit moving aircraft such a Sabres and Hunters before final disbandment upon merger with No. 167 Squadron RAF on 15 September 1958.


Leonard Henry Trent

No.s 118 Sqn, 167 and 504 Squadrons of the Coltishall Wing were to escort the Venturas, and were to be met by further squadrons of No. 11 Group, Fighter Command over the Dutch coast.
