2 unusual facts about No. 65 Squadron RAF


RAF Great Sampford

No. 65 Squadron RAF used the airfield starting on 14 March 1942 flying Supermarine Spitfire V's before leaving to RAF Martlesham Heath on 9 June 1942 before returning again on 15 June 1942 for fifthteen days.

Sandy Johnstone

On 24 November 1939 George Pinkerton was promoted to Squadron Leader and given Command of No. 65 Squadron RAF, with Johnstone taking over command of ‘B’ Flight from Pinkerton.


Seletar Airport

65 Squadron based at Seletar operated Bloodhound Mk II surface-to-air missiles as anti-aircraft defence from 1 January 1964 until the squadron was disbanded on 30 March 1970 with the equipment and role handed over to 170 Squadron, Republic of Singapore Air Force.
