Nong Khai

Nong Khai is connected to Laos via the First Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge, which permits direct traffic to Vientiane via road and rail (in the latter case, via Thanaleng Railway Station).

It is the Thai gateway to the Laos' capital of Vientiane, 25 kilometers up river, on the North bank opposite the Thai town of Sri Chiang Mai.


Lao Buddhist sculpture

The religious art tradition of the region has received an original contemporary twist in the monumental fantastic sculpture gardens of Luang Pu Bunleua Sulilat: Buddha Park near Vientiane, and Sala Keoku near Nong Khai, Thailand.

Rail transport in Bangkok

Trains travelling on the Northern Line to Chiang Mai, the Northeastern Line to Nong Khai and Ubon Ratchathani, and the Eastern Line to Aranyaprathet originate at the station, and so do some trains of the Southern Line, which terminates at Su-ngai Kolok and has a connection to Malaysia (the other Southern terminus is Thonburi).
