North Carolina Superior Court Judge Lucy Inman and District Court Judge William Southern are both announced candidates for the seat.

North Carolina Superior Court

The first three judges elected by the North Carolina General Assembly were Samuel Ashe of New Hanover County, Samuel Spencer of Anson County, and future U.S. Supreme Court Justice James Iredell of Chowan County.


Edwin T. Boykin

In 1885 Boykin was appointed a Judge for the Sixth Judicial Circuit of the North Carolina Superior Court to finish the term of Judge Allmand A. McKoy who had died.

John C. Martin

Martin served one term on the city council of Durham before becoming a North Carolina Superior Court judge in 1977 by appointment of Gov. Jim Hunt.
