Lange-Nielsen finished his secondary education in 1908, and attended the Norwegian Military Academy in 1909.
He attended the Norwegian Military Academy from 1892 to 1893, the Royal School of Drawing from 1893 to 1894 and Harriet Backer's School from 1894 to 1895.
He graduated from the Free School of Mathematics in 1780, and started serving in a dragoon regiment.
In 2003, the Army Academy was obligated to follow the Law of Universities and granted the right to award bachelor degrees.

From 1807 to 1809 he was a part-time teacher at the Norwegian Military Academy, and from 1808 to 1814 he edited the government's magazine Budstikken.
