George Alfred Spencer (1872 – 21 November 1957) was a miner and then a councillor on Nottinghamshire County Council from Stapleford, later Labour MP from 1918 to 1929 for Broxtowe.
In mid-2009 Nottinghamshire County Council commissioned a feasibility study to consider a plan to extend the Robin Hood Line along this route by extending the current hourly service between Nottingham and Mansfield Woodhouse to Ollerton, calling at Shirebrook, Warsop and Edwinstowe (for Sherwood Forest Center Parcs holiday resort).
