They believed this island to be connected to East Ongul Island and applied the name "Ongul" ("fishhook"), which is suggestive of the outline of the two islands taken together.


Ongulgalten Island

Mapped by Norwegian cartographers from air photos taken by the Lars Christensen Expedition, 1936–37, and named "Ongulgalten" ("the fishhook boar") in association with nearby Ongul Island.
