Along with Operation Ivy, the Uptones formed the core of the Berkeley ska-punk scene that paved the way for the likes of Rancid.

'69 Newport is a 7" vinyl EP record by the influential ska-core band Operation Ivy. The 7" was composed of "Hedgecore" and "Left Behind", both of which were recorded at 924 Gilman Street in 1987.
The band consists of singer Jesse Michaels (formerly of Operation Ivy, Big Rig, and Common Rider) with guitarist Mike Huguenor, bassist Morgan Herrell, and drummer Max Feshbach (who comprise San Jose punk trio The Hard Girls).
Shaken 69 was a ska side-project started in 1995 in the Berkely/Oakland area for musicians including Rancid's Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman, The Uptones' Paul Jackson and Eric Din, Skankin' Pickle's Lars Nylander and Mike Park and former Operation Ivy and Schlong drummer Dave Mello.
During Stikky's active years it was common for them, Crimpshrine, Isocracy, Operation Ivy, Corrupted Morals, Sweet Baby Jesus, or The Lookouts to open a bill for a touring punk band almost every weekend at 924 Gilman Street.
The label has released records for such punk bands as Operation Ivy, Jawbreaker, Pinhead Gunpowder, Crimpshrine, Corrupted Morals, Less Than Jake, Schlong and Various Artists compilations with such bands as Less Than Jake, The Piss Shivers, J Church, Blanks 77 latest record (VSR88) was released in 2003.
Hadley was the narrator of several Department of Defense films: "Operation Ivy", about the first hydrogen bomb test, Ivy Mike, "Military Participation on Tumbler/Snapper"; "Military Participation on Buster Jangle"; and "Operation Upshot-Knothole" all of which were produced by Lookout Mountain studios.
