Ancient Diocese of Ribe

In the city of Ribe there were also the Benedictine nunnery of St. Nicholas (founded before 1215), a Franciscan friary and the Dominican St. Catherine's Priory, both dating from 1259, a hospital of the Holy Ghost and a commandery of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem, both dating from about 1300.

Order of the Holy Ghost

These now focused on a single institution, the original and by this time extremely large Arcispedale di Santo Spirito in Sassia, the buildings of which dated from the time of Pope Sixtus IV (1471–84), which at its height was capable of accommodating over 1,000 patients, with additional spaces for contagious and for dangerously insane cases, and more than 100 medical staff, and an international remit.


Heinersdorf

It was first mentioned in a 1319 document when it was sold by Margrave Waldemar of Brandenburg to the Hospital of the Holy Ghost in Berlin.
