Osric, the nephew of Edwin, ruled Deira after Edwin, but his son Oswine was put to death by Oswiu in 651.
At about this time the lands of Preston were granted by King Henry I to the monks of St. Oswin at Tynemouth.
Wylam's parish church was built in 1886 and is dedicated to St. Oswin, a Northumbrian saint.
