Pop producer Pete Waterman played some of these tracks on his UK television show The Hitman and Her which boosted interest in the songs and the label, so much so that Waterman picked up some tracks, including "Dancing Queen" for his own label PWL.
It was originally recorded by singer and PWL-stablemate Mandy Smith for her debut album Mandy which was also produced by Stock Aitken Waterman, however, for unknown reasons, her version was scrapped and the song was given to Kylie to record instead.
Smith's version remained unreleased until 2005 when it was premiered on PWL Radio and included on the 2005 release Stock Aitken Waterman Gold as a bonus track.
In 1987 Simon Cowell became closely associated with Pete Waterman and would spend time with Waterman at his PWL studios complex, being mentored by him and learning about the effective running of a successful music business.
