The aircraft was an amateur design of a team of students of Warsaw University of Technology (Politechnika Warszawska) led by Edward Margański.

For its strange looks and noisy engine it was nicknamed Belphegor after the noisy demon.
Also, in the market square there is the only existing prototype of PZL M-2, Polish trainer aircraft designed in PZL Mielec.
