1944–45 Oregon Webfoots men's basketball team

The Webfoots, coached by John Warren, played in the Pacific Coast Conference (PCC) and compiled a 30–15 win–loss record in regular and postseason competition and an 11–5 record in conference play.

1958 Iowa Hawkeyes football team

The Hawkeyes finished the season with a 7-1-1 record, as in 1957, but this year they would travel to Pasadena to play the Pacific Coast Conference champion California in the Rose Bowl.

Jackie Jensen

Cal ended the regular season at 10–0 under coach Pappy Waldorf, winning a share of its first Pacific Coast Conference title in ten years, and Jensen placed fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting, with Doak Walker taking the award.

Sam Chapman

Going to the university at Riegels' suggestion, Chapman starred in football for the Golden Bears, being named an All-American for the 1937 Pacific Coast Conference and national champion "Thunder Team", which went on to win the 1938 Rose Bowl; the last time California has won the game.
