The bones, found by Peter Warren, date to Late Minoan IB (1580-1490), before the Myceneans arrived (in LM IIIA, c. 1320-1200) according to Paul Rehak and John G. Younger.
In 1980 he obtained his M.A. from Bryn Mawr College, writing on Mycenaean shrines under Machteld Mellink, and Ph.D. in 1985, writing on Roman sculpture under Brunilde Ridgway.
