Thus, Pelayo needed to be elected by his Visigothic nobles before becoming king of Asturias, and so did Pepin the Short by Frankish nobles in order to become the first Carolingian king.
Born Emilio Ramon Pelayo Ejército on October 5, 1963 in Pagsanjan, Laguna to action star Jorge Marcelo Ejercito, who went by the screen name George Estregan, of Pagsanjan, Laguna and Ramona Pelayo Ejercito in Ibajay, Aklan.
He was married to Ramona Pelayo-Ejercito of Ibajay, Aklan, with whom he had four children: actor Emilio Ramon Ejercito ("George Estregan, Jr."), Maria Georgina Ejercito, Kurt Joseph Ejercito, and George Gerald Ejercito.
The Menéndez Pelayo International Prize has been awarded since 1987 by the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP) with the objective of honoring those persons whose literary or scientific work has a humanistic orientation and application, in the tradition of the University's namesake Marcelino Menéndez y Pelayo.
