A couple of years earlier, while touring country Victoria with a theatre company headed by playwright Ray Lawler Humphries had amsued his fellow actors with a parody of a middle-class Australian housewife; for the company's end-of-year revue he named her Edna Everage and played her in a sketch he wrote for the show, called "Olympic Hostess".
