Battle of Nikopol

With the Nikopol garrison eliminated, the Russians were free to march on to Plevna.

Osman Nuri Pasha

Before Osman could reach Nikopol, the Russian vanguard had taken the city in the Battle of Nikopol (16 July) and Osman settled on Plevna to the south.

Plevna, Montana

Bulgarian railroad workers named the town after the city of Pleven in Bulgaria.

Plevna was founded in 1909 along the Milwaukee Road transcontinental rail line known as the Pacific Extension.
