It has been critical of the policies of all post-communist governments, and is opposed to the monetarist policies that were instituted by Polish economist and finance minister Leszek Balcerowicz.
Kijowski, Sr. wrote for such publications as Przegląd Kulturalny and Tygodnik Powszechny.
He studied philosophy at the University of Lwów, and was an editor of many Galician newspapers and magazines (Dziennik Literacki, Przegląd Powszechny, Gwiazdka Cieszyńska), and especially the Gazeta Lwowska which he reformed and expanded.
