After the 1956–57 season, Imlach moved to professional hockey, hired by the Boston Bruins as general manager of their Springfield Indians farm team.
He played the next two seasons (1949–50 and 1950–51) in the Quebec Senior Hockey League with the Quebec Aces, where he was coached by future Hockey Hall of Fame member Punch Imlach.

Early on the morning of February 21, 1974, while driving on the Queen Elizabeth Way from Toronto to Buffalo in his white De Tomaso Pantera sports car, (a gift from Sabres' GM George "Punch" Imlach), Horton was involved in what is now an infamous accident.
