Mettrick built the team around its core strengths - goalkeeper Reb Beatty and the defense led by Niall Lepper and Michael Nelson - and led the team to a 12-4-1 record along with a #21 national ranking in his first season.
Beatty starred at Loyola University Maryland (previously Loyola College) from 1999 to 2002, and remains the only player in MAAC Men's Soccer history to be named as a First Team All-Conference selection for four years in addition to being named Goalkeeper of the Year in all four campaigns.
