The Rhaetian is named after the Rhaetian Alps, a mountain chain stretching over parts of eastern Switzerland, northern Italy and western Austria.
This Pre-Roman dialect (the Swiss Rhaetian or Raetia) is one of four official languages of Switzerland by the Swiss German, Swiss Italian and Swiss French.

The viaduct is located on the Rhaetian Railway's metre gauge line from Chur to the holiday and recreation resort of Arosa (the Chur-Arosa line), between Peist and Langwies, at a place known as Matten-Gründji.
Rhaetian Alps poppy (P. alpinum subsp. rhaeticum) has light yellow to orange petals and feathery foliage is found in the Central and Southern Alps.
They are used mainly on Rhaetian Railway routes with steep inclines: the Arosa line, the Bernina Railway, and the route from Landquart to Davos.
Ge 2/4 no. 222 from the second batch of rebuilds is the fourth preserved example of the class; it is based in Landquart, and is to be placed into service on the Rhaetian Railway as a heritage locomotive.
