Mahaffey pitched in two of the games as part of the losing streak, losing a 1–0 game (the first of that losing streak) on a steal of home by Chico Ruiz of the Cincinnati Reds, and was taken out while winning in a game against the Braves in which Rico Carty hit a triple off of reliever Bobby Shantz to win the game.

Rico Carty

In the 1964–1965 off-season, as the country reeled between rapid governmental transitions and militarism, he undertook a trip with Catholic Relief Services to his home country, on a mission to deliver clothing and supplies.


1977 Caribbean Series

Managed by Buck Rodgers, the team received strong support from Series MVP Rico Carty, who led the hitters in runs (8) and RBI (10), while setting a new Series record with five home runs.
