In 1980 the Church celebrated its 200th anniversary and was officially given the status of a basilica by Pope John Paul II.
In 1993 she was the official organist in service at Aglona basilica (Latvia) during the visit of Pope John Paul II.
He died in 1990 and was buried at the Basilica of the Assumption in Aglona.
