He later returned to Rome where he served as a judge of the Roman Rota and as a consultant in canon law at the Pontifical Atheneum of St. Anselm and at the Lateran University.

On Thursday, January 30, 2014, Pope Francis accepted his resignation as President of the Executive Board of the Financial Information Authority, and named Bishop Giorgio Corbellini, Titular Bishop of Abula, and President of the Labour Office of the Apostolic See and the Disciplinary Commission of the Roman Rota, to immediately succeed him as Interim President of the Executive Board of the Authority.
