3 unusual facts about Rosa Hope


Alexander Petrie

A portrait of Petrie by Rosa Hope was hung in the council chamber of the university on the Pietermaritzburg campus, it was later removed, as Petrie had not been a Chancellor of the University, and it now hangs in the lecture theatre nearest the Classics department on the Pietermaritzburg campus.

At this time she was living at 40 Downshire Hill, Hampstead, N.W, the same house where Mark Rutherford, the novelist, lived in 1852.

In 1938 she accepted the post of Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at the University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg, where she remained until 1957.
