On 13 November 2007 Rees signed for A-League club Wellington Phoenix until the end of the season where he joined up with former Adelaide United teammate and captain, Ross Aloisi.
Days after his arrival, captain Ross Aloisi signed with new team Wellington Phoenix, paving the way for Sarkies to become a key player in the Reds midfield brigade.
Aloisi only played 1 match for FC Lorient over two seasons before moving on to Grazer AK in Austria's Bundesliga.
