In August 2011, a six-year-old named Avalanna Routh who was battling AT/RT at Dana–Farber Cancer Institute was given a pretend wedding with her idol Justin Bieber, with doctors and nurses providing a cardboard life-sized cutout of Bieber, a guitarist, flowers, and a T-shirt emblazoned with the words "Future Mrs. Bieber".
Routh is a graduate of the William Cullen Bryant High School and received his bachelors from St. John's University.
His father's family could trace its history back to the Norman conquest when it acquired land at Routh near Beverley, Yorkshire.
Jonathan Reginald Surdeval Routh (24 November 1927 – 4 June 2008) co-starred in the British version of the television show Candid Camera (1960–67) and co-starred with Germaine Greer and Kenny Everett in a later attempt at a revival, Nice Time (1968).

Following a success with Candid Mike, Routh started a British version of the U.S. show Candid Camera around 1961 for the U.K. broadcaster ABC TV.
