Abel Ingpen was an original Member of the Entomological Society of London, a Member of the Microscopical Society of London and an Associate Member of the Linnean Society.
He contributed papers on microscopy to the Royal Microscopical Society's Journal and Transactions, and was president of the society in 1851–2.
He was a member of the Royal Microscopical Society of London, and was elected a Fellow in 1880 (hence his honorific suffix FRMS).
