In 1353 Charles gained 24 Palatinate estates from Rupert I in compensation for his debts.
In 1365 Henry VII, together with his cousin Rupert I took part in the expedition of Emperor Charles IV to Provence, during which he visited, among others, the city of Avignon, where he tried to obtain a Prebendary from his family.
Rupert I recognized the opportunity and initiated talks with the Curia, which ultimately lead to the creation of the Papal Bull for the Foundation of a university.
On 12 January 1409, after the death of his last surviving brother Rupert I without male issue, Wenceslaus II became in the sole heir of the Duchy of Legnica; two months later, on 19 March, he designated as his heirs the brothers Henry IX and Louis II of Brieg, grandsons of Louis I the Fair.
