Astronaut Rusty Schweickart is the grandson of a couple who emigrated from Lembach to the USA.
In creating the book, Campbell drew on transcripts of a series of lectures and conversations that he gave in San Francisco in the early 1980s, including legendary symposiums with astronaut Rusty Schweickart and with members of the Grateful Dead.
Faculty and lecturers included leaders and innovators in academia, politics, science, business, and the arts such as Harlan Cleveland, Mary Douglas, Langdon Winner, Stewart Brand, Howard Nemerov, Robert Reich, Walter Orr Roberts, Rusty Schweickart, Nicholas Johnson, and Paul Levinson.
