History and philosophy of science

More recently the sociology of science and science and technology studies have become popular topics and a few HPS departments have become Science Studies departments, e.g., the School of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of New South Wales was known as the School of Science and Technology Studies (STS) from the mid-1980s until 2001.

During his second administration at NASA, Fletcher was largely involved in efforts to recover from the Space Shuttle Challenger accident.

Jan Neruda

Andrew J. Feustel took a copy of "Cosmic Songs" with him on space shuttle mission STS-125.

Joe F. Edwards, Jr.

In the fifth and last exchange of a U.S. astronaut, STS-89 delivered Andy Thomas to Mir and returned with David Wolf.

Julie Payette

Payette flew on Space Shuttle Discovery from May 27 to June 6, 1999, as part of the crew of STS-96.

Laser bonding

The material test coupons were then affixed to spaces provided on test panels, which were then installed onto trays which were attached to the ISS during a space walk conducted during the STS-105 Mission flown on August 10, 2001.

LOCAD

The S6 Truss was swabbed in space on flight day 5, March 19, 2009, during the first spacewalk by Steve Swanson (EV1) and Richard R. Arnold (EV2).

Loop heat pipe

LHPs were first flight demonstrated on the NASA space shuttle in 1997 with STS-83 and STS-94.

Luca Urbani

Following candidature by the Italian Space Agency, Urbani was selected by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in May 1995 as an alternate Payload Specialist for the Life and Microgravity Spacelab (LMS) mission, STS-78, and began training for the flight duties of a Payload Specialist Astronaut at the Johnson Space Center in Houston.

Magnetorheological fluid

It made its debut in both Cadillac (Seville STS build date on or after 1/15/2002 with RPO F55) as "Magneride" (or "MR") and Chevrolet passenger vehicles (All Corvettes made since 2003 with the F55 option code) as part of the driver selectable "Magnetic Selective Ride Control (MSRC)" system in model year 2003.
