During her tenure Smith worked to reinstate the former Woodhead Line between Hadfield and Penistone.

After signing for Sheffield United, Evans moved to Millhouse Green, Penistone in the nearby Barnsley area.
The station's strapline is "Hits and Memories across Barnsley, Penistone and the Dearne Valley" or simply "Hits and Memories".
The grounds were much more extensive than the present Hillsborough Park, stretching north to the current junction of Leppings Lane and Penistone Road, and included the site on which Hillsborough Stadium now stands.
Some, however, was created more recently, such as the window to celebrate the 600th anniversary of Penistone Grammar School.
Sir Thomas Penistone was among thirty gentlemen in the retinue of Richard Sackville, 3rd Earl of Dorset - “one of the seventeenth century’s most accomplished gamblers and wastrels”.

Sir Thomas Penistone subsequently settled in Cornwell, Oxfordshire, and sometime after 1622, he married again, to Elizabeth Watson, daughter of Sir Thomas Watson and widow of Sir William Pope.
The funeral ceremony will take place on February 15 at the Saint John the Baptist Church.
