4 unusual facts about Sally Jessy Raphael

NBC Talknet

Sally Jessy Raphael hosted the 10 pm-1 am time slot and spoke to callers about issues involving relationships and their personal lives.

"Much forgotten is that Bruce Williams originally aired at 10PM Eastern to Midnight, and Sally Jessy Raphael aired Midnight to 3AM Eastern time. That quickly changed. I'm not sure how long, maybe a couple of months, to 7-10PM and 10-1AM. The shows were a hit out of the box and stations asked for an earlier feed time. Weekend programming was added a year later with Bernard Meltzer and Dr. Harvey Ruben."

Sally Jessy Raphael

During the 1990s, as competition in the talk show arena intensified, her show moved toward more sensationalistic topics, as did many of the other talk show hosts who were her competition, including Jerry Springer (who, at the time, was also distributed by Multimedia Entertainment) and Maury Povich.

The show was eventually picked up by WVIE, Baltimore, Maryland, as the parent station, and is being syndicated among other AM stations in New England, the Mid-Atlantic and the Midwest, in addition to at least one station in Arizona.

Lulu Devine

Lulu has appeared on numerous talk shows, such as (Jerry Springer Show, The Jenny Jones Show), The Howard Stern Show, and The Sally Jessy Raphael Show and also has made appearances at the Adult Entertainment Expo with fellow big-bust performers Chelsea Charms, Minka, and Kayla Kleevage.

Marty Garner

Following this, Garner appeared on several daytime talk shows including Sally Jessy Raphael, Jenny Jones and, most notably, on Montel Williams in an episode about former "geeks" reuniting with past tormentors.
