The neighborhood is mostly residential and contains two yacht clubs, San Diego Yacht Club and Southwestern Yacht Club.
Glacier Gardens, located at Eighth Avenue and Harbor Drive, next to the San Diego Yacht Club on San Diego Bay, served as the first home rink for the San Diego Figure Skating Club.
Several high school sailing teams also sail out of the San Diego Yacht Club, including the Point Loma, Bishop's, Francis Parker, and Cathedral Catholic High School sailing teams.

The San Diego Yacht Club responded by building two catamarans, one with a conventional soft sail (Stars & Stripes S1), and the second with a Scaled Composites -built wing mast (Stars & Stripes H3).
The 1995 Citizen Cup regatta was won by Stars & Stripes, however, the defending San Diego Yacht Club opted to race the second-place boat Young America, sailed by the winning Stars & Stripes crew, in the succeeding America's Cup races as it was thought that this would give them the best chance of beating Black Magic of New Zealand.
