She is currently under the tutelage of Padmabhushana Sri P.S.Narayanaswamy, direct disciple of Sangeetha Kalanidhi Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer.
Pattammal's style of singing attracted many students, foremost among them her younger brother D. K. Jayaraman, who sang with her in several concerts, and who himself received the Sangeetha Kalanidhi in 1990.
He was then chosen to learn under Sangeetha Kalanidhi T. V. Sankaranarayanan, from whom he imbibed the tradition of Ganakaladara Madurai Mani Iyer for ten years.
