Following the death of Septimus Burt in 1919 the property was left to one of his four surviving sons, Reginald Edward Burt.
The Attorney General Septimus Burt, in debate on the 2nd reading speech, claimed that contracts were being issued, not for current work, but to hold Aboriginal people as slaves on stations for potential future work, and so prevent them from being free to leave.
He was a synodsman, trustee and legal advisor for the Church of England, and a close friend of Archbishop Charles Riley.
It is planned to restore and develop other buildings in the complex, including the Burt Hall and the 1859 deanery building, which adjoins the cathedral, on the corner of Pier Street.
