3 unusual facts about Serowe


Bessie Head

Most of Bessie Head's important works are set in Serowe, in particular the three novels When Rain Clouds Gather, Maru, and A Question of Power.

Head settled in Serowe, the largest of Botswana's "villages" (i.e. traditional settlements as opposed to settler towns).

Kgaswe School

Founded in 1986, the school caters students not only located in Palapye, but also for students based in neighbouring towns Serowe and Mahalapye.

Arnold Wienholt Hodson

One of his journeys, in 1906, was made in the company of Sir Ralph Williams, Resident Commissioner, and was from Serowe to Livingstone and the Victoria Falls via Lake Ngami.

Mangwato tribe
