Alexandre Louis Philippe Marie Berthier (July 20, 1883, Paris - May 30, 1918, Barenton-sur-Serre; 4th Prince de Wagram) was the son of Bertha Clara von Rothschild of the German branch of the prominent Rothschild family and Louis Philippe Marie Alexandre Berthier, 3rd Prince de Wagram (1836–1911).

In the following months the 2nd Army Corps advanced and reached in November 1918 Sissonne and the river Serre.
Bass–Serre theory was developed by Jean-Pierre Serre in 1970s and formalized in Trees, Serre's seminal 1977 monograph (developed in collaboration with Hyman Bass) on the subject.

It comes as the third largest ski & winter destination of France after Savoie (Tignes, the 3 Valleys...) and Haute-Savoie (Chamonix, Morzine...) and before Hautes-Alpes (Serre-Chevalier, Montgenèvre, etc.) It also hosts Coupe Icare, an annual festival of free flight, such as paragliding and hang-gliding, held at the world-renowned paragliding site at Lumbin.
Born in Bages, Pyrénées-Orientales, France, to pharmacist parents, Serre was educated at the Lycée de Nîmes and then from 1945 to 1948 at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris.
In 1978 he was an invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Helsinki (p-adic L functions, Serre-Tate local moduli and ratios of solutions of differential equations) and 1970 in Nice (The regularity theorem in algebraic geometry).
