Shōjō

In Hayao Miyazaki's animated film Princess Mononoke, talking, ape-like creatures struggling to protect the forest from human destruction by planting trees are identified as shōjō.

In Cryptozoology, the shojo is often referred to as xing-xing and is believed to be a mainland orangutan.


Animerica

In 1998, Animerica Extra was launched as a manga anthology which eventually focused specifically on shōjo titles.

Fairy Cube

Manga artist Kaori Yuki's earlier, related short manga "Psycho Knocker" appeared in the October 2004 issues of the Japanese shōjo (targeted towards girls) manga magazine Hana to Yume published twice a month.

Katsuji Matsumoto

Printed as an over-sized pamphlet with a sturdy cardboard cover, and included as a premium in the April issue of Shōjo no tomo, The Mysterious Clover was a variation on The Scarlet Pimpernel and Zorro.
