In 1998, Animerica Extra was launched as a manga anthology which eventually focused specifically on shōjo titles.
Her stories of dosei-ai (same-sex love) and of female friendships had a direct influence on later Shōjo manga.
She is said to have learned to fight in an extracurricular compulsory class in high school, and is often seen with her friends and little brother, who are, like her, all parodies of typical half-animal/half-human characters from several shōjo manga and anime.

As with Animetal Lady Marathon, the album consists of heavy metal covers of shōjo anime theme songs, children's anime theme songs, and other anime theme songs sung by women.
Manga artist Kaori Yuki's earlier, related short manga "Psycho Knocker" appeared in the October 2004 issues of the Japanese shōjo (targeted towards girls) manga magazine Hana to Yume published twice a month.
Asuka's current licenses include a broad spectrum of manga: popular shōnen and shōjo series such as After School Nightmare, more mature seinen and josei titles such as Bokurano, and classic manga such as Black Jack and works by Osamu Tezuka.
