Chris, together with his brother Simon and a schoolfriend Jim Brownlow, set-up Viz in December 1979 from a bedroom in Newcastle.
Recently he has promoted comedy gigs at The Copt Hill, Houghton Le Spring, Gateshead Fell Cricket Club and has recently compered for Edinburgh Previews for Simon Donald and Vladimir McTavish.
As the success of the comic book grew he became a member of the so-called Viz editorial cabinet, theoretically headed by Chris Donald, but which also included - for most of its run - Dury, Simon Donald and Simon Thorp.

The band recorded an album in Ibiza, played the Ibiza Rocks Festival two years running and appeared at Newcastle Arena with Paul Weller.

He also performed at the Guilbenkian Theatre.

In 1976 Simon joined Newcastle’s People’s Theatre, training in theatre skills.
