The Parnell Baronetcy, of Rathleague in the Queen's County, was created in the Baronetage of Ireland on 3 November 1766 for the first Baron's grandfather John Parnell.
From a line of politically motivated ancestry who moved to Ireland in the 1600s, Sir John rose to the highest positions in Irish politics and Parliament as Commissioner of Revenue (1780), Chancellor of the Exchequer (1787) and Lord of the Treasury (1793).
Sir John Parnell, 1st Baronet (c. 1720–1782), was an Irish politician and a baronet.

3 November - The Parnell Baronetcy, of Rathleague, is created in the Baronetage of Ireland for John Parnell, High Sheriff of Queen's County.
Finally in 1799 he was appointed Irish Chancellor of the Exchequer and a Lord High Treasurer of Ireland in place of Sir John Parnell, who quarrelled violently with Pitt over the projected union, which he categorically refused to support.
