After the disband of the brilliant English Shoegaze band Slowdive, former group member Christian Savill who played guitar in Slowdive formed Monster Movie in 2000.

Many former fans of Slowdive found that Neil Halstead had changed his musical direction to folk music which disappointed them.

On the other hand, Monster Movie have done better in superseding Slowdive by simplifying its genre.
"Golden Hair" is played during the opening credits of Mysterious Skin; "Dagger" and "Catch the Breeze" are also played in the film.

Director Gregg Araki uses Slowdive's music in many of his films; Splendor includes the song "Shine." "Alison" is played in The Doom Generation and "Blue Skied an' Clear" is played during the closing credits.

Big Sonic Heaven aired every Sunday evening for four hours and featured shoegaze, dream pop, trip-hop, Britpop, and electronic by bands such as Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine, Dead Can Dance, Portishead (band), Depeche Mode, Ride, Slowdive, The Cure, Hooverphonic, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and The Smiths to name a few.
featuring relevant ambient music artists like Taylor Deupree, Keith Kenniff, ex-member of UK ‘shoegaze’ icons Slowdive and Lowgold drummer Simon Scott among many others that Bruno personally invited to work on his music.
Their discography includes several full-lengths, EPs, and participations in various worldwide compilations and tribute albums including Jesusland (a tribute to The Jesus and Mary Chain), Blue Skied, and Clear (a tribute to Slowdive), and many more.
Designating themselves "cinematic post-rock," the band describes their sound as bridging the typically instrumental rock sounds of influences such as Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, This Will Destroy You, with the highly effected guitar and vocal sounds of bands like The Appleseed Cast, Ride, Slowdive, and Swervedriver.
