In dryer areas Dog Violets are used whilst in wetter areas the foodplant is Bog Violet (Viola palustris)or Marsh Violet growing amongst Purple Moor-grass or Tufted Hair-grass.

The sites are home to the Dormouse (Muscardinus avellanarius), red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) and the nationally scarce Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary (Boloria selene) and Kent black arches (Meganola albula).
Roe Deer and Purple Hairstreak butterflies can both be seen here, as well as the extremely rare pearl-bordered fritillary and the small pearl-bordered fritillary.
Pearl-bordered Fritillary, Duke of Burgundy Fritillary, Marbled White, Dingy Skipper and Grayling are just some of species that inhabit the national park.
