The southern, and nominate, subspecies of Buller's Albatross (Thalassarche b. bulleri) breeds only on the Solanders and the Snares.

The two exceptions are the Chatham Islands, which form a special territorial authority (island council) themselves, and the Solander Islands, which are part of the Southland Region and Southland District.
In New Zealand the grass is found on the north-eastern Titi, or Muttonbird, Islands, as well as on the Solander, Snares, Antipodes, Auckland and Campbell Islands.
